AOTW – ZAYNE
Like many other artists before him, Dwayne Haase,
more popularly known as Zayne, started off singing
on the church choir. As a young man, Zayne spent a
significant amount of time in the Portland community
of Jamaica. He lived with his grandfather who owned
a sound system, something that Zayne found quite
fascinating back then.
Whenever the opportunity was granted, Zayne would
mess around with his grandfather’s sound. He
frequently sang in youth groups and at Sunday school
but soon began to slowly transition from singing
gospel to more secular songs. His inspiration came
from artists such as Buju Banton, Jah Cure, Sizzla,
Bob Marley and other culture based entertainers.
Outside of music, Zayne has always had an interest in
aircraft engineering. It was that interest that would
consistently pull him away from his music. While in
Portland he attended Norwich Primary School, and
then went on to Port Antonio High. He only spent
two years at Port Antonio High because he relocated
to St. Andrew, where he completed his high school
education at Papine. His pursuit for a degree in
aircraft engineering landed him at the Nation
Aviation Academy in Tampa, Florida.
While in Florida, Zayne began to realize that he was
on his way to accomplishing one of his dreams
(becoming an aircraft engineer) but the other
(becoming an artist), was being neglected. By 2009
he started to take frequent trips to Jamaica where he
would voice for producers such as Red Boom, Digital
Sham, Benji and others. And whenever possible, he
performs at stage shows in and around Petersburg and
Tampa in Florida.
Over the past two years, Zayne has recorded several singles such as “my hero”, “strip
tease”, “party in JA” and “look how long”. He has done work with record labels like Frenz For Real,Hard At Work, Money Green and Digitalize Records. Zayne is currently
compiling tracks for his upcoming mix CD entitled “The Walk Of Life”.
Free time is not a luxury Zayne can afford as he now spends his days being both a full
time recording artist as well as a student. He is currently working on a brand new single,
called “too much killing” which will be added to the upcoming mix CD. He says that he
will never stop doing music as in doing it he finds a peace and a joy that is unexplainable.
Zayne is not currently signed to any production house but is represented by Frenz For
Real Music.
