AOTW – GOLDENRAMA

CREATING SHOCK WAVES IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

A musical beat is heard in the background, the bass thumps loudly and speakers reverberate with melodies that produce a nod, moving rhythmically and perfectly timed. He muses over the newest beats, puts pen to paper and emerges later with a satisfactory smile on his face. The engineer gives him a nod of approval and he begins; words bolt from his mouth with cognoscibility almost secondly crashing over eight bars at lightening speed, twisted and combined to create perfect rhymes.

The onlookers liken him to Bone Thugz, Busta Ryhmes Twista. ‘Golden Rama’, the most electrifying artiste of the century, gives birth to his newest brainchild. On Tuesday October 14, 1986 Rory Gilligan and Raina Bitter celebrated the birth of their son Antonio Valentino Gilligan, who a few years later began his educative years at Lannaman’s Preparatory and Wolmer’s Preparatory School and then matriculated to the prominent Kingston College. Whilst there Antonio realized his knack for athletics and indulged in both soccer and table tennis, both of which he did well enough to have played in a number of tournaments.

His alma mater Kingston College proffers the motto, ‘The Brave May Fall but Never Yield’, with this adage being the base of his formative years, he reminisces on the days as young as four years old where he propped himself up in what seemed like giant speakers at that time. Once again, dancehall erupted with the sweet juggling of the mighty Stone Love. Music became his life.

‘Golden Rama’ is quite unlike any other young artiste, captivating persons with a charming smile and witty words, forcing anyone who interacts with him to be intrigued. His love affair with music is over fifteen years old and he has no intentions of quitting until he has achieved an impressive local and international status. To many, this is the most clichéd dream of most young artiste, to ‘make it big’, sell millions of albums and of course the inevitable and have lots of money. Some Jamaican artistes have tasted that dream but to others it is a dream deferred or deterred. Marcus Garvey teaches that “men who are in earnest are not afraid of consequences” and Golden Rama is not frightened by the frivolities of being famous and has never limited himself. He believes in shattering the boundaries and stereotypes that opinion leaders have created for dancehall music. In summation, he believes ‘whatever the mind conceives will be achieved.’

Now, Antonio has partnered with his childhood friends and spends hours perfecting songs, writing, promoting his music to the masses and while doing so has shared the same stage with a number of artistes like Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Mavado and a personal friend Hollow Point. He has made appearances on CVM TV ‘Di Party,’ Hype TV’s Up and Live and has done a number of school tours and is no stranger to the dancehall arena. Creatively this young artiste has written a number of songs among them are ‘Calling all Cars’ produced by Preston, on the Banner Medley, ‘Girls Close’ and ‘Beat It’ which features Hollow Point and currently have videos being shown on all local channels. Through the new collaboration, a number of songs have been produced that are yet to hit the streets; ‘Bring it Come,’ ‘P***y Fitness,’ ‘Tight P***y Walk’ and ‘As Far As Land Guh’ all of which will display his ingenious ability to induce a vibe that makes the listener more keen the second time around.

Golden Rama through his years of observance in the music industry has realized that making sacrifices, confidence in self, versatility and perseverance are only a few pieces to the puzzle and he has already deciphered that piece. Firmly planted, the most electrifying artiste of the century is destined for success.
